The nature and size of this tightly knit community has not changed for the 22,000 people who call Park Forest home since developers Klutznick, Sweet and Manilow first set out their vision. The cooperation was a common thread for all the developers who pursued and pursued their visions with the active residents who still call it home today.

Park Forest was first recognized as an All-America City in 2010 under the National Park Service's National Historic Landmarks Program. It was one of only three planned municipalities in the country with at least 22,000 inhabitants, the first city to have an outdoor shopping mall modeled on Venice's St. Mark's Square, and the first of its kind to encourage a diversity of residents, both religious and racial. It was located at the corner of South Main Street and North Main Avenue when the Park Forest Public Library began, but later moved to the City Forest in 1999. The first public school, Park Park Elementary School, was built in 1947-1949 and still stands as it was originally in 1948-1953. Houses were furnished as for the tenants who lived in them during the first five years, and there was a library.
